Why does ihalo crash

A kilonewton kN is a measure of force, 1 kN being the amount of force required to move 1kg at a speed of one metre-per-second, for 1s of time. Regulations for the roll hoop state: A load equivalent to 50kN laterally, 60kN longitudinally in a rearward direction and 90kN vertically, must be applied to the top of the structure through a rigid flat pad which is mm in diameter and perpendicular to the loading axis. During the test, the roll structure must be attached to the survival cell which is supported.

Under the load, deformation must be less than 25mm when measured along the loading axis and any structural failure limited to mm below the top of the roll structure when measured vertically. Those for the halo are similarly extreme: A load equivalent to kN vertically downward and 46kN longitudinally rearward must be applied at a position mm forward of the plane C-C and mm above the reference plane and positioned on the car centre plane… A load equivalent to 93kN laterally inward and 83kN longitudinally rearward must be applied at a position mm forward of the plane C-C and mm above the reference plane to the outer surface of the structure.

These tests must be undertaken within three minutes of each other and the forces must be maintained for at least 5s during which there can be no failure of any part.

Safety is a constant campaign and there will doubtless be further improvements made in the wake of the Monza accident. F1 waives Brazil GP curfew after freight delays. Hamilton clarifies Bottas, Perez comments.

Hamilton: Bottas 'left door open' for Max at T1. Did the title just become Verstappen's to lose? Drivers had many issues with the protective device, including reasons such as the device impairing visibility and taking away from the allure of open cockpits in an F1 car.

But its usefulness has been highlighted repeatedly and none more so than now. The incident took place in the Rettifilo chicane between Hamilton and Verstappen. Hamilton had just made a pitstop and was opening up his Mercedes on the opposite side of the racing line. On that end, Verstappen was quickly attempting to overtake Hamilton. After both cars entered the gravel, the right-sided wheel of Verstappen crashed onto the halo — which took the majority of the brute force of the accident.

Afterwards, Hamilton said that he would have to meet a specialist since blows to the head require a customary check-up for the medical all-clear. That ultimately saved me. And saved my neck. However, this was entirely Max's fault, and there could have been a serious injury to Hamilton but for the halo which was obvious from watching the footage - not because Lewis says so.

Max's response was absolutely disgraceful. He shows no respect, and deserves no respect. He is a serious accident waiting to happen. Reply posted by Bob, at 12 Sep Bob. As soon as Horner called it a "racing incident" you could tell that he knew it was Max's fault.

Cauliflower Ears replied: Absolutely. Horner is a disgrace. More replies 24 down. Verstappen will kill someone one day. He expects the field to part like the seas for Moses whenever he appears.

Horner and Helmut need to take some responsibility too. Removed comment. More replies 29 down. The incident wouldn't have happened if Verstappen received harsher penalties every time he drives dangerously. The Halo is useful but deterring dangerous driving will save lives. Tony Hall replied: Red Bull are guilty of the same charge. They always blame somebody else. More replies 17 down. Let Verstappen through or he will smash into you and blame you. A dangerous young man. Reply posted by beagle, at 12 Sep beagle. More replies 7 down. Horner needs to make stern words with his driver before he does kill someone, or himself. Bob replied: Quite right. The boy would be leading the driver's championship by about 50 points if he didn't suffer the red mist.

And Horne does him a huge disservice by not giving him the rollockings he deserves. Until he can read a race to the end rather than the next 5 seconds he'll keep dropping points he should have earned.
